Flowers and Food

FThese works explore the familiar as a doorway to the infinite — flowers at the edge of their bloom, candy that is ready to eat, fruit luminous with inner light. Each subject is treated as an occasion for paying attention: an act I believe is itself a form of consciousness.

The range of technique — from tightly rendered botanicals to loose, textured mixed media — reflects my conviction that perception itself is plural, and that beauty reveals itself differently depending on how we choose to look. A calla lily seen closely enough becomes something vast. A slice of watermelon holds its own kind of light.

To paint the familiar is to discover that nothing is ordinary.
