The Cat Lady

Cats are sovereign beings. They move through the world on their own terms — watchful, interior, uncompromising. In this series I explore the autonomous presence of cats and their profound bond with women, investigating the wordless understanding that can exist between beings of entirely different kinds.

Each piece asks what it means to perceive and be perceived — to recognize another consciousness looking back at you. These themes run through everything I make: how different minds meet the world, and what connects us beneath the surface.

The bond between a woman and her cat is is built on intuition rather than instruction, on presence rather than explanation. I see in cats a mirror: creatures who reflect back something essential about the women they share their lives with.

Hobo

This series includes Hobo, the street installation commissioned by the City of Redding in 2024 — a painting of my mysterious feline friend as he judges onlookers. This work brings questions about consciousness and connection into everyday civic space.

My paintings bridge the space between companionship and solitude, softness and independence, the domestic and the wild. I am drawn to the mystery of beings who want to understand each other without words, but do not cling to each other.
